The Rev. William White gathers a small group that takes first steps towards calling a general meeting of parishes to organize the church in Pennsylvania


24 May 1784
The general meeting of parishes in Pennsylvania appoints a standing committee of laymen and clergy to communicate with Episcopalians elsewhere, and calls for a preliminary meeting in New York, since organizing as a church is a task larger than should be undertaken by a single state.

6 October 1784

The meeting in New York is attended by sixteen clergy and eleven laymen from seven states.  They call for a General Convention to be held in September 1785.

14 November 1784 

Samuel Seabury

The Rev. Samuel Seabury, elected at a 1783 closed meeting of Connecticut clergy, is consecrated a bishop in Aberdeen, Scotland by bishops of the Scottish Episcopal Church.
