Old St. Luke’s Offers Tours and Special Recital

Each Sunday afternoon through Labor Day weekend, Old St Luke’s Church, Burial Ground and Garden, Scott Township, will be open for visitors from 1:30 to 4 p.m.

A docent will briefly describe the history of this pioneer church, which began in 1790. A self-guided tour of the Burial Ground and Garden is available, which includes the graves of veterans of the French and Indian War and the Revolutionary War.
Admission is free.

A special recital by the Faure String Trio will be held on Sunday, June 7 at 6:30 p.m.

The concert will feature the music of Giorgio Mirto, an Italian composer.  This will be the first opportunity for the Faure String Trio to perform a three pieces that Mirto dedicated to the Trio.This will be the first opportunity for the Faure String Trio to perform a three pieces that Mirto dedicated to the Trio.  The composition is called "Oil in Canvas" and has three movements inspired by the work of three famous painters. The first movement is "Il bue scuoiato," based on a painting by M. Chagall, the second movement is "L’isola dei morti," a painting by A. Bocklin and the final movement is  "Les demoiselles d’Avignon" by P. Picasso.

The other works are Trio 451 and a Guitar Quintet, also works by Giorgio Mirto. The Faure String Trio will be joined by guitarist Eric Brockschmidt and violinist Juan Carlos Soto. This program is presented free of charge.  The same concert will be repeated on June 14th at 8 p.m. at the PNC Recital Hall of Duquesne University.
