Greenbacks for Greener Churches Grants Awarded

The diocesan Commission on Church Architecture, at its meeting on June 14, 2011, approved the Greenbacks for Greener Churches grants for 12 parishes totaling $138,742.24 to help them become more energy efficient.

The grants, covering up to 80% of improvement costs, are part of a three-year diocesan initiative announced last February.

"We hope this will be a very beneficial way of supporting all of our congregations, especially those with aging facilities," said Bishop Price. "It is my hope that this project will save parish utility dollars and reduce 'energy footprints.'"

Applications and deadlines for the 2012 grants will be announced in early 2012.
