Diocesan Transitions, November 2018

The Rev. Charles Hamill and his wife, Bethany, celebrated the birth of their first child, Owen Gregory, on March 16, 2018. Effective May 30, 2018, the canonical residency of Fr. Hamill was transferred from the Diocese of Pittsburgh to the Diocese of Connecticut, where he now serves as Rector of Grace Episcopal Church, Old Saybrook, Connecticut.

Effective August 13, 2018, Bishop McConnell, with the advice and consent of the Standing Committee, rescinded the release from ministry in The Episcopal Church of the Rev. Simon Barnes, who is restored as a duly licensed ordained priest in the Episcopal Church. Fr. Barnes is now serving as Interim Rector of St. Francis in the Fields Episcopal Church, Harrods Creek, Kentucky.

The Rev. Wade Lawrence is now serving as Deacon at Trinity Cathedral, effective September 1, 2018. Deacon Lawrence previously served as Deacon at All Saints, Brighton Heights.

Effective September 5, 2018, the Rev. Neil Raman has transferred his canonical residency to the Diocese of Pittsburgh from the Diocese of Long Island. Fr. Raman is Associate Rector of Calvary, East Liberty.

The Rev. Daniel Hall and the Rev. Canon Natalie Hall are pleased to announce the birth of their daughter Evangeline Dalia Elizabeth Hall, 6 lbs. 9 oz., 20.5 inches, at 9:29 p.m. on September 7, 2018.

Mr. Jamie McMahon has been appointed by Presiding Bishop Michael Curry to a three-year term on the board of directors for Forward Movement. Mr. McMahon is advancement director at Carnegie Museums of Pittsburgh, and senior warden of Calvary, East Liberty. Forward Movement, located in Cincinnati, is best known for its publication Forward Day by Day, and also offers books, curricula, conferences, websites, apps, and other online resources.

Effective September 27, 2018, the Rev. Tina Lynn Lockett has transferred her canonical residency from the Diocese of Pittsburgh to the Diocese of Upper South Carolina, where she serves as Canon for Pastoral Care at Trinity Episcopal Cathedral in Columbia, South Carolina.

The Rev. Canon Shawn Malarkey has resigned as Canon to the Ordinary, effective September 30, 2018, following a diagnosis of multiple sclerosis. Canon Malarkey remains engaged in parish ministry as Rector of Nativity, Crafton, and will continue to assist with the communication efforts of the diocese.

The Rev. Nancy Chalfant-Walker has resigned as Rector of St. Stephen’s, Wilkinsburg, effective October 14, 2018, and is looking forward to spending more time with family in retirement.

Bishop McConnell has appointed Ms. Jean Adams, member of Calvary, East Liberty, to serve a three-year term on the Commission on Ministry. In addition, the Standing Committee has appointed to the Commission the Rev. Garrett Yates, Assistant Rector of St. Paul’s, Mt. Lebanon, to fulfill the unexpired term of the Rev. Charles Hamill.

Marilyn Dilg, wife of 57 years to the Rev. Arthur Dilg, passed away on October 31, 2018 after several months of illness. Marilyn was a registered nurse who served as director of the Social Services and Discharge Planning Department for many years. In addition to her husband, she is survived by two daughters and one son, nine grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

The Rev. Martin Wright has been called to serve as Priest-in-Charge of Advent, Jeannette, effective November 1, 2018, following the retirement of the Rev. Vicente Santiago. Fr. Wright also serves as Chaplain at Heartland Hospice.
