Diocesan Transitions – January 2023

Ordination
Bishop Ketlen ordained the Rev. Erin Morey to the priesthood on December 10, 2022. The service was held at St. Paul’s, Mt. Lebanon, where Erin serves as Assistant Rector.

Appointments
Bishop Ketlen appointed William Stevens of Calvary Church, East Liberty, to represent our diocese on the Board of Directors of Shepherd Wellness Community.

New Calls
Effective January 20, the Rev. Catherine “Cat” Munz is serving as quarter-time Interim Priest at St. Michael’s of the Valley, Ligonier. Her ministry will be partially remote and largely during weekdays, so the parish will continue to rely on supply clergy for Sunday worship. St. Michael’s is currently accepting applications for its next Rector.

Transfers In
The Rev. Cameron Soulis has transferred her canonical residency from the Diocese of Washington to the Diocese of Pittsburgh. The transfer was effective on December 6, 2022. In September, Cameron joined the staff of Calvary Church, East Liberty, as its Associate Rector.

Departures
The Rev. Deacon Paul Barker, formerly assigned to St. Paul’s, Kittanning, has moved to West Virginia to serve as Pastor of Christ Episcopal Church in Bluefield, as well as Director of the Highland Educational Project, an outreach ministry of the Diocese of West Virginia. Paul remains canonically resident in the Diocese of Pittsburgh.

The Rev. Dr. James B. Simons moved to Vero Beach, Florida, in November 2022, following his August 1 retirement as Rector of St. Michael’s of the Valley, Ligonier. Jim remains canonically resident in the Diocese of Pittsburgh.

Deaths
Former diocesan administrator Lawrence “Larry” Knapp died on January 3. Larry served for 22 years under Bishops Appleyard, Hathaway, and Duncan.
