New Forms for Requesting Parish Financial Assistance

Dear friends,

This message is to inform you (parish clergy, wardens, treasurers, and other financial personnel) of a change to how parishes must now request various forms of financial assistance from the Diocese, and how the Diocese will evaluate those requests going forward.

New request forms are now available for parishes wishing to request financial assistance in the form of either relief from assessment or a grant from the Diocese’s operating budget (previously awarded as Diocesan Mission and Faithful Remnants grants or support from the “Reopened Parish” budget category). The forms are based on a new set of criteria that focus on the parish’s engagement in the mission of the Church, its attention to the key priorities of our diocese, and management of its resources. Click the link below to view these criteria in full, as well as for an explanation of their purpose.

Two forms are available for use by parishes:

These forms are now available on the Documents & Forms page of the diocesan website. Please contact us if you have questions about whether or when to submit one of the request forms, or which form to use.

A couple more things are worth noting…

First, due to the types of questions posed on the new request forms, completing them might require input from a number of parish leaders. While some parishes are accustomed to having their treasurer alone handle all financial-related requests, you may find that, in gathering input from clergy, wardens, and others, as well as the treasurer, you’ll be able to gain and share more insight into the life of your parish – insight that will be very helpful to those evaluating your request.

Second, the process for requesting Growth Fund Grants and Parish Mission Grants is not changing, as suitable methods for evaluating these types of requests has been in place for some time.

Again, if you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to reach out to us.

With thanksgiving for your ministry,

Kathi Workman, Canon Treasurer, kworkman@episcopalpgh.org
The Rev. Canon Kimberly Karashin, Director of Administration, kkarashin@episcopalpgh.org
