Diocesan Transitions for August 2019

The Rt. Rev. Kenneth L. Price Jr. is serving as our Assisting Bishop during Bishop McConnell’s sabbatical until November 3, 2019. Bishop Price previously served as our Bishop Provisional from 2009 until 2012.

Ann McStay of St. Paul’s, Mt. Lebanon, was elected president of the Episcopal Church Women of the Diocese of Pittsburgh on May 4, at the Spring ECW meeting.

The Rev. Jude Bell, a monk of St. Gregory’s Abbey, an Episcopal Benedictine monastery in Three Rivers, Michigan, died on June 11, 2019. Fr. Bell previously served at Church of the Advent in Jeanette.

The Rev. Canon Kimberly Macy Karashin and the Rev. Julie Lynn Smith were ordained to the Sacred Order of Priests by Bishop McConnell at Trinity Cathedral on June 15, 2019. In June, Canon Kim+ moved to full-time on diocesan staff, continuing in her role as Canon for Mission while also preparing to take on the role of Director of Administration in 2020. Julie+ is serving at St. Brendan’s, Franklin Park, as their Children and Youth Ministry Coordinator.

The Rev. William “Biff” Carpenter was received as a priest in our diocese from the Anglican Church in North America on July 24, 2019. Biff+ is currently serving at Christ Church, North Hills.

The Rev. Lennel Anderson, former Rector at St. Francis-in-the-Fields, Somerset, and regular supply priest at St. Bartholomew’s, Scottdale, has transferred his canonical residency to the Episcopal Diocese of Southwest Florida effective May 21, 2019, where he is serving as Rector of St. George’s Episcopal Church in Bradenton.

The Rev. Laura Di Panfilo, a transitional deacon from the Diocese of New Jersey, has joined the staff at St. Paul’s, Mt. Lebanon, as Assistant Rector. Also new to St. Paul’s is the Rev. Charles L. Fischer III, canonically resident in the Diocese of Atlanta, serving as Interim Associate Rector on a half-time basis through June 2020.

The Rev. Garrett Yates, former Associate Rector at St. Paul’s, Mt. Lebanon, is now serving as the Rector of St. Anne’s-in-the-Fields Episcopal Church in Lincoln, Massachusetts.

Bishop Dorsey McConnell has appointed Jamie McMahon, of Calvary, East Liberty, as Parliamentarian to Diocesan Convention.

Bishop McConnell has appointed Tim Austin of St. Brendan’s, Franklin Park, and Peter Balfe of St. Paul’s, Mt. Lebanon, as co-coordinators for diocesan Disaster Preparedness.

The Rev. Canon Kimberly Karashin, diocesan Canon for Mission, and Andy Muhl, diocesan Executive Assistant and Communications Specialist, have been appointed Co-Recorders of Ordinations by Bishop McConnell.

Cathedral Provost, the Rev. Aidan Smith, and his wife Melanie announced the birth of Solomon Everett Smith, born on Friday, August 23, at 5:46 am. He weighed 9 lbs 4 oz and was 22 in long. Mother and baby are doing fine, as are Aidan and three-year-old big sister Felicity.
