Diocesan Listening Session: Potential Changes Related to the Book of Common Prayer

In 2022, the General Convention passed Resolution A059, which called for substantial revisions to Article X [Of the Book of Common Prayer] of the Constitution of the Episcopal Church. The proposed amendments attempt to shift the Church’s awareness that contemporary and future methods of publication may not be restricted to the form of a book. What General Convention adopts as a prayer book is not a form of publication (a book) but rather the content, i.e., the text of the liturgies.

Since this is a revision to the Constitution, it requires a second reading and approval at the upcoming General Convention in June of this year. Please join the bishop and members of Pittsburgh’s deputation to General Convention for a discussion and listening session on Thursday, May 30 from 5-6pm, via Zoom. Our deputation wants to hear from a wide variety of voices from across the diocese, so all are warmly invited to participate!

Background and the text of the proposed changes, as well as related resolutions, can be found here:  https://www.episcopalarchives.org/sites/default/files/gc_resolutions/2024-A072.pdf
