St. Peter’s, Brentwood, Church Secretary Job Opening

St. Peter’s Episcopal Church, 4048 Brownsville Road, Brentwood, PA 15227, is looking to fill the position of the Church Secretary. This is a very special ministry, the person in this position is on the front lines and is often the first person the public sees and talks to. She or he is a reflection of the church and should always remember this.

The person selected for this position should be a Christian with general office skills who truly feels “called to Christian service” and who is willing to go “above and beyond” the personal investment in a job that is considered “normal” in the secular world of work. The person in this position should also be ever conscious of the need for confidentiality concerning financial records, counseling situations, pastoral matters, and health matters, etc. of congregational participants and staff.

Beyond this, the person in this position should have a strong attention to detail, the capability to communicate well with parishioners, and an ability to stay organized.

Position Description
Primary function is to serve as the church Secretary. This is a part-time position with flexible work hours, including the ability to perform many tasks either in-office or remotely. This person reports directly to the Pastor.

Primary Job Duties Include, but are not limited to:

  • Completes clerical tasks as necessary, including typing, filing, and copying.
  • Answers phone calls, responds to voicemails, relays messages to the appropriate people.
  • Reads and responds to emails.
  • Responsible for writing, editing, and printing the weekly church bulletin.
  • Assists parish treasurer in maintaining office financial records including the payment of parish bills and invoices.
  • Maintains parish event calendar which includes church and non-church group events.
  • Acts as secretary to the Vestry and is responsible for maintaining Vestry records.
  • Sorts and distributes parish mail.
  • Maintains church database to keep accurate membership records.
  • Maintains all church records, such as information regarding baptisms and marriages.
  • Refers visitors and parishioners to pastors or other administrators when necessary.
  • Sends out church mailings, including church wide email notices.
  • Orders office, custodial and general church supplies when necessary.

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Demonstrates the ability to clearly and effectively communicate information to parishioners and visitors.
  • Should have strong computer skills and experience working with Google Office Services including-Gmail, Google Docs, and Google Drive, should also be familiar with Microsoft Publisher and Microsoft Word.
  • Exhibits strong organizational skills.
  • Pays close attention to detail.
