All God’s People: A Celebration of Absalom Jones

Please join us for an ecumenical celebration of the life and work of the Rev. Absalom Jones, the first African American to be ordained as a priest in the Episcopal Church.

Due to the current surge of Covid, the service will only be streamed online at facebook.com/EpiscopalPittsburgh

The celebration will feature guest preacher Bishop Cynthia Moore-Koikoi of the United Methodist Church. Bishop Solak will be the celebrant.

This event is co-hosted by the Commission on Race and Reconciliation and the Beloved Community Initiative.

There will be a dedication of a plaque commemorating The Rev. William Henry Wilson, the first Black deacon and priest, ordained to the priesthood at Trinity Cathedral on December 30, 1877.


The guest preacher, Bishop Cynthia Moore-Koikoi of the Western PA Conference of the United Methodist Church, was interviewed by Denise Johnson of the Commission on Race and Reconciliation on the importance of celebrating the life and legacy of the Rev. Absalom Jones.
