Diocesan Official Participates In General Convention’s Preview Webcast

The President of the Diocesan Standing Committee, the Rev. Dr. James Simons, will be among those taking part in a live webcast that addresses questions concerning the upcoming General Convention of the Episcopal Church.

The webcast can be viewed at the Episcopal Church’s website on Wednesday, May 13, beginning at 11:00 a.m. Eastern Daylight Time.

The principal presenters will be Presiding Bishop Katharine Jefferts Schori; the President of the House of Deputies, Bonnie Anderson; Executive Officer and Secretary of the General Convention, the Rev. Gregory Straub; and Bishop J. Jon Bruno of the host Diocese of Los Angeles.

Dr. Simons has been appointed chairman of the Convention’s Dispatch of Business committee. He likens the job to air traffic control, being responsible for reviewing and scheduling every resolution, debate, vote, and special presentation that occurs during the convention’s ten day run, July 8-17, in Anaheim, CA.

Wednesday’s webcast originates from Anaheim as well.

The webcast is the first of several Internet and social networking media tools to be employed for the General Convention. The Episcopal Church will launch its “Media Hub” in early July to provide electronic access to the Convention’s calendar, video streams, flickr photos, activity area, legislative tracker, twitter feed, and resource links.
