{"id":683,"date":"2013-04-20T11:30:45","date_gmt":"2013-04-20T11:30:45","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.episcopalpgh.org\/bishopsblog\/?p=683"},"modified":"2013-04-24T21:41:11","modified_gmt":"2013-04-24T21:41:11","slug":"pilgrim-africa","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.episcopalpgh.org\/bishopsblog\/pilgrim-africa\/","title":{"rendered":"On a Mission to Africa"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><i>Since<b>\u00a0<\/b>2007, I have helped direct <a href=\"http:\/\/www.pilgrimafrica.org\/\" target=\"_blank\">Pilgrim Africa<\/a>, an ecumenical ministry of evangelism and redevelopment for northeast Uganda. \u00a0I will be writing and supplying updates over the course of my current trip to that region.<\/i><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-full wp-image-708\" style=\"line-height: 24px;\" alt=\"Istanbul\" src=\"http:\/\/www.episcopalpgh.org\/bishopsblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/03\/Istanbul.jpg\" width=\"300\" height=\"200\" \/><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"line-height: 1.714285714; font-size: 1rem;\">I am sitting on a plane in Istanbul, about to head to Entebbe, Uganda.\u00a0 From my window I can see the minarets of a mosque, and around me is a swirl of languages &#8212; European, Asian and African.<br \/>\n<\/span><\/p>\n<p>The Wi-Fi situation at the airport here turned out to be hopeless, so I will have to wait until Sunday to post something longer..<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.pilgrimafrica.org\/\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-710 alignleft\" alt=\"Pilgrim Africa\" src=\"http:\/\/www.episcopalpgh.org\/bishopsblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/03\/PAlogo.jpg\" width=\"148\" height=\"131\" \/><\/a>For now, know that I am going to renew old friendships; support the work of\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.pilgrimafrica.org\/\" target=\"_blank\">Pilgrim Africa<\/a>\u00a0in public health, malaria control, education, and agriculture; build relationships for the Episcopal Diocese of Pittsburgh with the churches of Uganda; and, explore mission possibilities for us as a diocese, especially in the areas of medicine and education. \u00a0I will be meeting with bishops, pastors, physicians, teachers, lots of schoolchildren, farmers, midwives, government ministers, social workers and dozens of Pilgrim field staff.<\/p>\n<p>I hope you will see this as an exciting opportunity for the Diocese of Pittsburgh to begin to make new friendships with a community I have known for years, and that builds on work some of you have already started in western Uganda and Rwanda.\u00a0 Please pray for my journey, that God will be glorified in all I say and do here.
