\n\tWilliam Bacon Stevens is consecrated as Assistant Bishop of Pennsylvania.<\/span><\/span><\/span>\n<\/p>\n

\n\tThe Pennsylvania Dicoesan Convention adopts a resolution discharging the committee to divide the diocese and stating that any "further agitation" of the question cease as it is "inexpedient" to divide the diocese.  <\/span><\/span><\/span>\n<\/p>\n

\n\t\"\"<\/a><\/span><\/span>Hill Burgwin<\/span><\/span><\/em><\/span>\n<\/p>\n

\n\tLater, in the same session Hill Burgwin of St. Peter's Church, Pittsburgh, offers a resolution to form a new committee of 3 clergy and 3 laity from the western part of the state to to ascertain whether there was support by the clergy and laity of the western part of the state for division and if there were appropriate resources to support a new diocese.  Felix Brunot of St. James, Pittsburgh tries to replace this motion with one reviving the previous committee.  This motion, a motion to table, and a motion to strike the phrase limiting the committee to westerners all fail.  Brunot manages to add a clause to the Burgwin motion saying the new committee was not tacit approval of the idea of division.  Burgwin's motion then passes.  <\/span><\/span><\/span>\n<\/p>\n

\n\tBishop Stevens, accompanied by many clergy,  dedicates the memorial to Bishop Bowan at the spot along the railroad tracks where he had died.  The memorial was later moved to St. Thomas Memorial Church, Oakmont.<\/span><\/span><\/span>\n<\/p>\n
