The three dozen people who will be intimately involved in preparing for the election and installation of the next bishop began their work on January 15 with an orientation retreat.

The day began with Eucharist, during which the Rev. Don Youse, the chaplain for the search process, commissioned and anointed all present "on behalf of the whole diocese.

In discussions within their respective committees and as a single group, the members of the Nomination, Transition and Standing Committees explored their roles and rules to be followed between now and the April 2012 election and the October 2012 installation.

Each committee spoke of the desire to involve the larger diocese in the process every step of the way, allowing for as much transparency as possible while also maintaining confidentiality when needed.  The Nomination and Transition chairs, Dana Philips and the Rev. Nancy Chalfant-Walker, say they are committed to both principles.

The Nomination Committee plans to visit each parish within the next several months as part of the discernment process.

More about the search process is available on the diocesan website.
