Saint Andrew’s Schola Cantorum Offers Monthly Choral Evensong

Saint Andrew's Episcopal Church in Highland Park is pleased to announce an addition to its already flourishing list of musical offerings. Peter J. Luley, St. Andrew's Director of Music, has founded a new choir, the Saint Andrew's Schola Cantorum, to offer Choral Evensong with Sermon on the third Sunday of each month.

The singers are from St. Andrew's parish choir & Choristers, from other Episcopal parishes, and from other denominations. They share in common their desire to glorify God in song and their deep love of the musical literature available for Evensong. Dr. Alastair Stout, the Schola's organist, is the Director of the Pittsburgh Compline Choir, Director of Music at Coraopolis United Methodist Church, and served as Head Chorister at Ely Cathedral in England in his youth.

The first Evensong to feature the Schola Cantorum was held on September 19, 2010. A video of C.V. Stanford's Magnificat in G, is available on YouTube. The treble soloist, Gabriela Pascale Schunn, is the Head Chorister at St. Andrew's.

The video was featured as the musical offering for Evensong on Facebook's Unapologetically Episcopalian and had been viewed more than 350 times within 48 hours of the time it was posted!

The Schola offers its next Evensong on October 17th at 4:30 p.m.

We hope that many from around the Diocese will be able to join us. If you have questions or need further directions, please feel free to contact Peter Luley or Jennie Palmer.
