The Church of the Redeemer in Squirrel Hill is pleased to announce the appointment of the Rev. Michael Foley as their new rector. Fr. Michael earned his Masters of Divinity degree from The General Theological Seminary, graduating cum laude in May 2013. While in seminary he worked part-time for The Episcopal Church in Ecumenical and Inter-religious Collaboration Mission. After graduation he served as Deacon to L’Eglise Francaise du Saint Esprit (Episcopal) on the upper east side of New York City. He was ordained to the priesthood in the Diocese of Los Angeles in January, 2014 and began his ministry at Redeemer on Epiphany.

Growing up in southern California, Michael earned a BS in Business Economics from UC Santa Barbara and after graduation served as a Trust Administrator at Union Bank for seven years. In 1994 he earned an MS in Marriage and Family Therapy from Fuller Theological Seminary, and in 1996 received accreditation as a school psychologist, holding that position in public education for fifteen years. In 2010 Michael received the Faculty Award for Excellence in Theology from the Episcopal Theological Seminary at Claremont. While attending his home parish in San Gabriel, CA he served one term as Junior Warden. There he was mentored by his priest, Fr. Denis O’Pray.

“From my first encounter with Redeemer to the first steps with them as their rector, I was attracted to this church's rich heritage and commitment to social justice, affirmation of diversity and devotion to beautiful liturgy," said Fr. Michael.  "Faith, intellect and action are palpably reflected in the life of our community. My goal is to strengthen existing and build new partners with creative minds and tender hearts to carry on the dedication of this church to be the glorious house of worship that boldly welcomes all and delivers the gospel of love, mercy and justice into the community.  With the people of Redeemer, I hope to release new ventures in spiritual formation, the arts and ecumenical and inter-religious partnerships.”

We welcome Fr. Michael into the Redeemer community look forward to his presence among us. A celebration of his new ministry is planned for Saturday, May 17, 2014 at 10:30 a.m.
