More Parishes Affirm Episcopal Ties

The congregations and vestries of two additional parishes have voted to remain part of the Episcopal Diocese of Pittsburgh of the Episcopal Church of the United States.

St. Mark’s Episcopal Church in Johnstown and St. Thomas Memorial Church in Oakmont were among the 28 congregations sending deputies to the diocesan Special Convention on December 13, 2008. In the process of discerning their future, the two parishes also sent representatives to an organizing convention held by those who left The Episcopal Church last October.

The parish-wide vote at both St. Mark’s and St. Thomas carried by a 2-to-1 margin in favor of staying in The Episcopal Church. A majority among the respective vestries also voted in favor of remaining.
