Lenten Theological Reading Group

Calvary, East Liberty invites you to join a theological reading group for Lent this year. The last three years have brought together a broad range of participants into a deep and reflective conversation about both ancient and modern theology, studying works by Rowan Williams, Gregory of Nyssa, and Dorothy Sayers.

This year we will be reading a few shorter pieces by John Ruusbroec, a 14th century Flemish mystic, including The Spiritual Espousals and The Little Book of Clarification. From the text: "In the abyss of this darkness in which the loving spirit has died to itself, God's revelation and eternal life have their origin, for in this darkness an incomprehensible light is born and shines forth; this is the Son of God, in whom a person becomes able to see and to contemplate eternal life."

The group will meet in the Evans Room at Calvary from 7-9 p.m. on Wednesday nights beginning on March 12, for five weeks. Please email Jamie McMahon if you are interested at jamie.mcmahon@gmail.com

Copies of the book are available in the Calvary Bookstore.
