Council Aids Holy Cross, Looks to 2010

At its December 7th meeting, Diocesan Council set a few important dates for the upcoming year and came to the aid of the diocese’s predominantly African-American parish.

The Church of the Holy Cross, which is undergoing an extensive roof repair, was granted a reduction in its 2010 diocesan assessment as a way of helping the parish meet its pressing financial obligations related to the construction. Click here for more about Holy Cross’ renovations.

Also on December 7, Council:

♦ approved holding the 2010 Diocesan Convention on October 15-16

♦ set the first Council meeting of 2010 for Monday, January 4, at Calvary Church in East Liberty. The remaining schedule for the year has yet to be set; members indicated a general preference for continuing to meet on the first Monday of the month at Calvary

Bishop Price announced four dates in which Council, the Standing Committee and Board of Trustees will jointly meet for Leadership Days. They are February 13, May 8, August 7, and November 6. The locations will be determined.

Council also approved adjustments to several line items in the 2010 budget as presented by the diocesan administrator and treasurer, Joan Gundersen.

Editor’s Note: A previous version of this story indicated a location for the 2010 diocesan convention.  Although a site was discussed, a final determination will be made by Council at a later date.
