Voting Information:
- All lay deputies and clergy need to sign in to receive ballots.
- If you must leave the convention before it is over, then you MUST also sign out at the registration desk. It is VERY important that we have accurate counts of how many eligible voters are present for each ballot.
- If you are a last minute alternate replacement, you will get the packet of the specific person you are replacing. At the time of the roll call, you should wait for the name of the person you are replacing, and answer “Alternate [name] present and replacing Deputy [name].”
- To SWITCH BETWEEN A DEPUTY AND ALTERNATE (during the convention): Go to the registration desk with the packet of ballots and the deputy name tag and the registrar will supervise the swap.
- Only actual voting members sit in the sections marked by district. Alternates and those with voice but no vote have separate designated seating.
- Balloting is done on computer-readable ballots. Use the pencil in your packet. Sharpeners are at the end of every row. Clergy and lay deputies have different colored printing on their ballots. Ballots are marked with a number in color. The ballot numbered “1″ will be used on the first balloting, “2″ on the second and so on.
- The “key” to the ballots listing which numbers correspond with which names will be on the projector screen at the front of the room. Each nominee selection will be on a separate row of the ballot.

Diocese Names Final Slate of Bishop Nominees
The Episcopal Diocese of Pittsburgh has completed the process of discerning who will stand for election as the next bishop of the diocese.
In a report to the Bishop, Standing Committee, and members of the diocese dated March 1, 2012, the Bishop Search/Nominating Committee identifies five priests on the final slate of nominees. The group includes those previously named by the committee to a preliminary slate, along with one additional nominee who qualified for the ballot during a designated period of nomination by petition.
The five nominees are:
- The Rev. Canon Michael N. Ambler, Jr., Rector of Grace Episcopal Church, Bath, Maine;
- The Rev. Dorsey W. M. McConnell, Rector of Church of the Redeemer, Chestnut Hill, Massachusetts;
- The Rev. Canon Scott T. Quinn, Rector of Church of the Nativity, Crafton, Pennsylvania;
- The Rev. R. Stanley Runnels, Rector of St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, Kansas City, Missouri;
- The Rev. Ruth Woodliff-Stanley, Rector of St. Thomas Episcopal Church, Denver, Colorado.
The Search/Nominating Committee’s report includes biographical sketches of the nominees, as well as their answers to a set of questions concerning their call to the ministry of Bishop of Pittsburgh, how they might lead the diocese and support its congregations, the challenges facing the church that energize them, and how they would respond to someone inquiring about being a Christian.
The report also details the year-long process by which the Search/Nominating Committee solicited input from a wide spectrum of parishioners to develop the criteria used for selecting the slate from an initial field of 124 names.
The document is being distributed to the approximate 140 clergy and lay deputies who will elect the new bishop at a Special Convention of the diocese to be held Saturday, April 21, 2012, at Trinity Episcopal Cathedral in downtown Pittsburgh.
Copies of the report will be made available to every active congregation in the diocese. It is also posted on the diocesan website at www.episcopalpgh.org/bsearch.

Pre-Election Visits
All candidates on the final slate are scheduled to visit the diocese and answer questions in a series of public forums known as “walk-abouts.” These are scheduled to take place from 6:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. on:
- Tuesday, March 20, 2012 – St. Brendan’s, Franklin Park (Dist. 1)
- Wednesday, March 21, 2012 – St. Peter’s, Brentwood (Dist. 3)
- Thursday, March 22, 2012 – Holy Cross, Homewood (Dist. 2)
- Friday, March 23, 2012 – St. Michael’s of the Valley, Ligonier (Dist. 4)
Additional Information
The 8th Bishop of Pittsburgh will be elected at a Special Convention of the diocese to be held at Trinity Cathedral on Saturday, April 21, 2012.
Because the election will occur close in time to the General Convention of the Episcopal Church in July 2012, church canons provide for the required consents to be given by the bishops and deputies at General Convention. Subject to that, the bishop-elect will be consecrated at a ceremony at Calvary Episcopal Church on October 20, 2012.
The new bishop will be called to lead a fellowship of vibrant communities united in Christ, who proclaim Him as Lord and Savior. All are welcome in our congregations regardless of where they are in their spiritual journey.
