Rev. J.P.B. Wilmer

The Rev. J.P.B. Wilmer reported for the committee on the division of the diocese to the convention.  He moved that "in the present disturbed comdition of our country" it was unlikely that any place in the diocese would be ready to form a new diocese and so moved that the committee be continued so it could report some time in the future.  The convention adopted the report.

Trinity Church, New Castle, Lawrence County. was admitted to union with the convention of the Diocese of Pennsylvania.

Confirmations by Bowman

Bishop Bowman collapses and dies on the way to the oil country parishes  after doing visitations in Pittsburgh.

24 October 1861

William Bacon Stevens was elected assistant bishop on the thirteenth ballot of the clergy and first by the laity.
