As the Episcopal Diocese of Pittsburgh's Bishop Search Nominating Committee began its work, it committed itself to a process of visiting parishes to conduct forums throughout the diocese.  Over 500 parishioners (about 20% of average Sunday attendance) participated in this process.  What we heard and learned offers a rich picture of our diocese and helps inform the prayerful discernment process of the Search/Nominating Committee.

We believe that God is calling a bishop who will work with us, recognizing the energetic, empowered leadership already in place, and acknowledging how far we have come since 2008.  We want a compassionate, accessible person with hands-on experience in building consensus and trust among groups.  We need someone who can be creative and innovative in finding ways to serve our down-sized diocese, continually keeping us focused on our mission.  We are seeking someone who demonstrates humility, grace and patience; is not afraid to roll up shirt sleeves; and who pitches in to accomplish the task at hand.  Knowing our style, we need someone with a sense of humor who can keep us grounded in those things that really matter as we try to answer God's call for the future.
